French striker Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the 2022 Qatar World Cup after suffering an injury to his left thigh during training today in Doha.
The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner felt a strong pain in his quads during a sprint toward the end of the training session.
The French Football Federation says he went for an MRI scan in a hospital which confirmed a tear.
France coach Didier Deschamps says he’s extremely sad for Benzema, who had made this World Cup a major objective. He says despite this new blow, he has full confidence in the team.
