Francis wins three-move restriction championship

Jack Francis won the 2023 Barbados National Three-Move Restriction Championship when the tournament climaxed at the Top Grade Academy in Bush Hall.

Francis, seated on the left in the cap, entered the final round of the masters category with a comfortable six-point lead and clinched the title on 21 points after having to settle for a draw against Kent Layne.

Francis, who will be heading to Kenya on Wednesday to take part in the Kenya Open Draughts Tournament, played unbeaten throughout the tournament.

Trevor Howell and Carson Farley ended on 16 points each, but Howell placed second via the honour points system.

Francis tells CBC Sports the upcoming trip to Africa is the part of future plans for Barbados to help develop the sport on that continent.

Meanwhile, in the majors division, Hamilton King finished on 22 points to be the winner, while Chad Knight and Claytis Pinder shared joint second position of the round-robin contest on 20 points.
