Barbadian professional footballer Thierry Gale was set to make his debut for Austrian Football Bundesliga SK Rapid Wien today, against Sk Sturm Graz at the Allianz Stadion.
The 21-year-old left winger was unveiled by the club last month but missed the first three matches due to international duty with the Barbados senior men’s national team. He did not play in today’s match which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Gale, who scored twice for the Tridents in the first round of the 2023/2024 CONCACAF Nations League versus Montserrat and Nicaragua, was the subject of a record transfer fee.
He became the most expensive local footballer in a deal worth BDS $1.7 million, after completing a move from FC Dila Gori in Georgia, where he scored twelve goals in nineteen games.
The deal followed his most successful season since turning pro in 2019.
