Local draughts players in-candidate Master Kent Layne and Grandmaster Jack Francis will represent Barbados in the World Draughts Go As You Please qualifier next week in Antalya, Turkey.
A number of the world’s best players will be there from May 2 to 5 for the qualifier, including past Go As You Please World Champion Lubabalo Kondlo of South Africa, current 3-move World Champion Sergio Scarpetta of Italy, Grandmaster Igor Martynov of Germany, European champion Shane McCusker of Ireland, and ex 3-move World Champion Alex Moiseyev of the USA.
Layne, who has a rating of 46th in the world out of 244 players, told CBC Sports he will be seeking an international master norm, as he already has gained a candidate master title.
The tournament will be played in an 8-round format.
Both players will leave the island later this week.
