Ministry of Sports unveils outdoor gym

The Garfield Sobers Sports Complex is now home to one of five outdoor gyms constructed in Barbados.

The newest edition to the sporting and healthy lifestyle landscape was officially unveiled today by Minister of Sports Charles Griffith, Director of Sports at the National Sports Council Neil Murrell, and officials from the Ministry of Health.

The gym equipment, at a cost of 50 thousand dollars each will also be placed at Gall Hill, St. John, Indian Ground, St. Peter, Bush Hall, St. Michael and Haggatt Hall, also in St. Michael.

Its in an effort to promote sports and recreational development on the island.

Minister Griffith says the Gymnasium location is a hub for physical activities, with hundreds of people exercising daily.

The Sports Minister also appealed to national federations to utilise the facilities.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness Dr. Sonia Browne welcomed the initiative and says exercise is a great tool in the fight against non-communicable diseases.
