Heidi Stoute continues to be the toast of the Barbados CARIFTA swim team, as she swam a national 13-14 age group record in the girls’ 100-metre freestyle last night in Curacoa, setting a new time of 59.84 seconds en route to claiming the gold medal.
This adds to the CARIFTA record winning time of 18 minutes, 30.16 seconds she set earlier in the meet in the 1500-metre freestyle – smashing the old mark of 19 minutes, 37.74 seconds.
Barbados’ medal tally now stands at 27. Along with Stoute’s gold medal, five more were claimed by the Bajans last night.
Another gold was picked up when Stoute joined Isabella Mayers, Toria Alleyne and Sarah Bartlett in the girls’ 800-metre freestyle relay winning, in a time of 9 minutes, 16.74 seconds.
They were three silver medals – Amiya Harrison in the girls’ 11-12 200-metre individual medley, Zachary Burke in the boys’ 11-12 200-meter individual medley and Adara Stoddard in the 15-17 girls’ equivalent.
Burke also picked up a bronze in the 11-12 boys’ 50-meter breaststroke.
Barbados is fourth in the points tables with 365 points behind leaders Bahamas who are on 863 points, the Cayman Islands – with 572, and Trinidad and Tobago with 407 points.
