The Barbados Surfing Association has handed down a heavy sanction on Allan Burke – the National Coach who left the Pan American team in Panama last month mid-competition, to accompany his son Josh Burke at another event in Australia.
Allan and his son made the decision to leave unbeknownst to other members of the team, and with Josh having just qualified for the quarter-final of the Men’s Shortboard competition.
The BSA has banned Josh until the end of 2023 from all national duty, but as we hear from President of the BSA Paul Bourne, Allan’s sanction is much heavier.
With the World Surf Games starting tomorrow, following this evening’s opening ceremony, the Barbados team is without a coach in El Salvador, something President Paul Bourne says is not abnormal.
When competition starts tomorrow in the Men’s Shortboard Jacob Burke and Caleb Rapson will be in action, while in the Women it will be Chelsea Roett and Chelsea Tuach.
