US: Opening Men’s T20 venue damaged by storm

May 29, 2024

The stadium which will host the opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Dallas, USA this weekend, was damaged after being hit by severe weather.

The United States and Bangladesh were due to meet this morning at Grand Prairie Stadium in an official warm-up match, but it was called off due to conditions at the facilities.

There was heavy rain overnight and winds up to 80-miles-per-hour, while storm sirens sounded in the city.

Warnings for strong thunderstorms, flash flooding and tornados have been given for the area.

A spokesperson from the International Cricket Council says fencing and scaffolding at the venue had been affected, but it does not materially impact the staging of the World Cup.

The opening match of the T-20 World Cup between the USA and Canada is due to take place in Dallas on June, 1.
