Police probe death of elderly woman and house fire

Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding a house fire and the unnatural death of an elderly woman.

The deceased has been identified as 93 year old Vitrose Hinds, who lived alone in a house in Waterhall Road, Apes Hill, St. James.

Police say they received a report around 10:30 this morning of a house fire in the mentioned area.

Personnel from the Arch Hall Fire Station, assisted by some residents, extinguished the fire which appeared to have started in the back bedroom of the residence.

Hinds’ body was subsequently discovered in the back bedroom.
