Barbados’ current Governor General Dame Sandra Mason has been tipped to become the island’s first President when the country becomes a Republic in November.
The decision will be made by both Houses of Parliament and is not one which depends only on the powers of the Prime Minister.
Ms. Mottley has announced that while the decision is not final, Dame Sandra has been presented as one Barbadian worthy of the honour.
