Challenges in achieving SDGs

April 29, 2023

Barbados and other countries across Latin America and the Caribbean have been advised to pick up the pace to achieve fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Representatives of the region’s 33 countries, United Nations agencies and regional, multilateral and civil society organisations met in Chile for the 6th Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development to review the progress and challenges.

As the meeting came to a close, the delegates insisted while countries were halfway through the period agreed upon by the United Nations’ member states in 2015 to reach the goal, they have not gotten halfway along the path to fulfill the targets.

Barbados was represented at the meeting by Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight.

While noting Barbados remains committed to achieving the SDG goals, she says the vulnerabilities of small island states pose challenges.

Dr. Munro-Knight says Barbados is aiming to ensure big policy initiatives are aligned directly with the SDGs.
