Barbados records 282 new COVID-19 cases

A total of 282 new COVID-19 cases (122 males and 160 females) were recorded by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Saturday, April 16, from the 996 tests conducted.

The positive cases consist of 57 people under the age of 18, and 225 who were 18 years and older. The number of people in isolation facilities was 76, while 3,230 were in home isolation.

An unvaccinated 85-year-old woman died from the virus, on Saturday. As at April 16, there were 384 COVID-19 related deaths.

The public health laboratory has carried out 632,284 tests since February 2020 and recorded 64,630 cases (29, 821 males and 34,809 females) of COVID-19.

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of people with at least one dose is 161,509 (70.7 per cent of the eligible population). The total number of individuals who are fully vaccinated is 151,632 (66,385 Males and 85,247 Females) which is 55.9 per cent of the total population or 66.4 per cent of the eligible population. The eligible population represents those people who are 12 years and older.
