Als in need of assistance for historic feat

September 28th, 2021

Barbadian Philip Als needs close to £40,000 to help with his expenses, as he and a team prepare for a historic attempt of rowing across the Northwest Passage, the Arctic route that links the Atlantic and the Pacific.

Speaking to CBC Sports after completing the first phase of his training in the North Sea in the UK, Als says he is looking forward to the challenge which is expected to start next June from the Baffin Island in Canada and should conclude after 60 days and 3000 nautical miles.

The expedition will be led by Leven Brown, who is known to be one of the greatest rowers and skippers of the 21st century, after gaining five Guinness World Records.

The Northwest Passage is considered one of the most challenging, as only a small number of ships have been able to complete it successfully.

Als says he has spent the last three months getting acclimatised to the cold conditions.
