Barbadians urged to prepare ahead of hurricane season

May 31, 2023

With the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season hours away, Barbadians have been advised to ensure they undertake their necessary preparedness planning.

The advice came during the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season press conference which featured Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, and representatives of the Department of Emergency Management and the Barbados Meteorological Services.

The official hurricane season stretches from June 1 until November 30.

Mr. Abrahams, while noting that every hurricane season is not the same, impressed on Barbadians to avail themselves of the shelters nearest to them in any eventuality.

A call was also made for Barbadians to consider joining one of the 30 District Emergency Organisations (DEOs).

It was further revealed by Mr. Abrahams that recovery efforts from the passage of Hurricane Elsa continue.

Acting Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Brian Murray updated the country on predictions for the season, reiterating it will be a near normal season, similar to 2022.
