Full splendour for Remembrance Sunday

November 13, 2022

Barbados joined scores of countries across the world today to  observe Remembrance Sunday and honour its war dead.

It was the first full parade since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and the first since the island transitioned to a Parliamentary Republic last year.

In keeping with tradition, officials laid wreaths at the base of the Cenotaph in National Heroes Square, in Bridgetown, to pay homage to the servicemen and women killed in combat.

Scores of spectators lined the streets and occupied other vantage points to view the proceedings.

President Dame Sandra Mason was first to place her wreath. She was followed by acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw, acting Chief Justice His Honour Mr. Francis Belle, representatives of the uniformed groups and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Two minutes of silence was observed in honour of the departed.

A short interdenominational service followed with prayers and a collection of hymns.
