The spirit of Independence took on another dimension on Friday among some primary schools in the north of the island.
They took part in a calypso competition.
And Kaleb Scott, class three student of Half Moon Fort Primary in St. Lucy emerged as the new Calypso King of the North.
He won the inaugural Island Pay Beacons of the North Calypso Competition.
His performance of ‘Something’s Happening’ by Red Plastic Bag, gained the nod of the judges ahead of five other contestants, who represented other northern primary schools.
The event formed part of the culture and market day activities at Half Moon Fort Primary.
Principal of the school, Ms. Ingrid Lashley explained that the event allowed students to strengthen their skill sets.
