Man dead following police-involved shooting

A man is dead following a police-involved shooting this morning.

Police say around 11:10 a.m., personnel from the District A Police Station were called to investigate a serious matter at Storey Gap, Codrington Hill, St. Michael.

The now-deceased was the subject of their investigations into a number of matters that were reported earlier.

The individual was seen walking along the road and identified. Police say they attempted to arrest him, but he resisted and evaded capture at this point, assaulting officers in the process.

He ran away from the Police, who gave chase on foot. The chase ended at a residence several metres away where the suspect armed himself with a piece of wood. He attacked the police officers, injuring a female officer who was struck on the right side of her head.

During the incident, Police fired shots in defence, and the suspect was injured.

Ambulance personnel were immediately summoned and on examination of the suspect found no sign of life. A doctor visited the scene and subsequently confirmed the death of the suspect.

The female officer who was injured was transported to the QEH for medical attention.

Investigations are ongoing.
