As the Ministry of Education gets ready to roll out the new National Nutrition Policy for schools when the new term starts tomorrow, one of the key stakeholders in the initiative says a number of school vendors have been seeking guidance on the best healthy foods to make available to the island’s children.
That’s according to Dr Kia Lewis, a general practitioner and chairperson of the Barbados Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition, who made the comment on the Morning Report.
Dr. Lewis noted that the Coalition has been holding workshops for all stakeholders from as far back as 2019, in preparation for when a policy would be implemented in the island’s schools. She said those workshops have included principals, teachers, parents and others who are critical to the process.
