Progress in repair and rebuilding efforts

75% of houses damaged or destroyed during the passage of Hurricane Elsa have been repaired or rebuilt.

This disclosure was made by Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dwight Sutherland during a site visit at Work Hall, St. Philip where rebuilding efforts are underway.

Minister Sutherland expects the $110 million project to be completed by the end of August.

The site visit came on the eve of Hurricane Elsa’s anniversary.

During the site visit Minister Sutherland revealed several challenges have hampered the Hurricane Elsa rebuilding efforts.

He disclosed project officers have encountered some difficulties locating contractors who have been paid to rebuild damaged homes. Mr. Sutherland describes the situation as unacceptable.
