Tourism officials reporting positive indications for industry

August 13th, 2021

Local tourism heads are reporting positive indications for the industry over the last few months.

These developments come as at least two of the island’s major source markets make changes to how Barbados is rated, given the current COVID-19 environment.

Most recently, the United States issued a travel advisory against Barbados, cautioning its nationals not to travel here.

However, Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Senator Rudy Grant says they have not seen any fall off in bookings from the US market.

Using a traffic light system, the United Kingdom has green lit Barbados for its nationals.

As a result, officials say forward bookings for the island are high and airline capacity is increasing.

BHTA Chairman, Geoffrey Roach says this is all positive and Barbados cannot afford to be moved back to amber or red on the UK travel traffic light system.
