Flash Flood Watch in effect

September 1st, 2022

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for central parishes of Barbados.

A Flash Flood Watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says a tropical disturbance in the central Atlantic has moved closer to the eastern Caribbean, resulting in a decrease in wind speeds across Barbados. This has allowed localised activity to develop across the island.

As a result, maximum rainfall accumulations of 25.0 to 50.0 mm in heavy to violent showers are expected mainly across the central parishes of the island during the afternoon.

This alert will be terminated at 6:00 this evening or sooner if conditions warrant.
