Active Kids Initiative launched

October 29th, 2021

In an attempt to ensure school children remain physically active while at home, the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, has launched the Active Kids Initiative Competition, which encourages students to walk as many steps as they can on a daily basis and record it with a pedometer.

Education Officer for Health Initiatives in Schools, Hedda Phillips-Boyce explains how the pilot competition will work.

Chief Education Officer Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw says given the sedentary mode students are in and the rise in non-communicable diseases among young individuals, the initiative will provide students with a greater understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

A nationwide competition for all schools is expected to be rolled out at a later date.
