New York’s annual West Indian American Day Carnival Parade, better known as the Labour Day Parade, has been cancelled for the second year running due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event usually sees scores of participants take to Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway for the parade.

The West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), says however, other activities will go ahead.

It says a five-day extravaganza will be held under the theme, “Rebirth: Future Now,” from Thursday. Several events featuring cultural and musical ambassadors are set to take place live during New York’s Caribbean Carnival Week at the Brooklyn Museum.

WIADCA Chair, Trinidadian Michelle Gibbs says guidelines have been put in place regarding COVID protocols for planned events.
