Jamaica: Curfew imposed after murder of ‘don’

October 16, 2023

Jamaica, CMC – Police in Jamaica have imposed a 48-hour curfew in the West Kingston sections of Arnett Gardens (Top Jungle), Hopeful Village and sections of Torrington Park, after a Saturday evening killing of a man who residents say is a ‘don’ from the ‘Top Jungle’ section of the community.

The curfew began at 8:00 am, on Sunday, October 15 and will remain in effect until 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, October 17.

Damani Taylor, known as ‘Hutchie Pang’, was shot dead in a section of the community known as ‘Back a Wall’.

Residents in the community told a local newspaper that the ‘don’ was marked for death after he started “moving shaky”.

They say he had been making some questionable decisions including disrespecting community elders who were well-respected figures in the community.

He was alleged to have ordered the beating of one of those community elders, the residents claim.

Arnett Gardens had been unstable up until a few months ago but residents were adamant that there would be no fallout from this killing and guaranteed that there was no war in the community and none will erupt because of the incident.
