CMC – A magistrate Monday denied bail to two people, including a private with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF), charged with the disappearance of a Galil assault rifle earlier this month.

Private Renaldo Wanza, 22, and 30 year-old Brandon Moonsammy appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor and were denied bail and the matter adjourned to June 14.

Wanza is charged with two counts of misbehaviour in public office; one count to wit the larceny of the Galil assault rifle and the other count to wit the subsequent transfer of same, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of ammunition.

Moonsammy was jointly charged with Wanza for misbehavior in public office to wit transferring a firearm and receiving the Galil assault rifle knowing same to be stolen.

The Ministry of National Security had offered a reward of TT$75,000 (One TT dollar=US0.16 cents) for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of persons responsible for the disappearance of the rifle, after an officer attached to the Teteron Barracks in Chaguaramas on June 3, signed for the rifle, which he received and subsequently secured.
