The Congressional Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol insurrection held its final public hearing on Monday.

In a momentous development, the committee voted to refer former President Trump to the Justice Department on multiple criminal charges for his role in the attack.

The vote was unanimous.

The criminal referrals against trump are for obstructing an official proceeding, defrauding the US, making false statements and giving aid or comfort to an insurrection.

Committee member Jamie Raskin spoke on the referrals.

“The committee believes that more than sufficient evidence exists for a criminal referral of former president trump for assisting or aiding and comforting those at the capitol who engaged in a violent attack on the united states. the committee has developed significant evidence that president trump intended to disrupt the peaceful transfer, transition of power under our constitution. the president has an affirmative and primary constitutional duty to act to take care that the laws be faithfully executed. nothing could be a greater betrayal of this duty than to assist in insurrection against the constitutional order,” Raskin stated.

Raskin said depending on evidence developed by the Department of Justice, Trump could face other criminal violations.

The Committee said it was also advancing criminal referrals for Attorney John Eastman and “others” to the Justice Department.

In response, former President Donald Trump’s campaign called the House Select Committee “a kangaroo court.”

In a statement, the Trump campaign called the Committee “a stain on this country’s history” that makes “a mockery of democracy.”

On his Truth social platform, Trump himself responded by saying the Committee’s actions would only make him “stronger.”
