All set for Emancipation Day Walk

July 31, 2023

Officials and artistes were extremely busy at the Bussa Roundabout throughout the day, as they prepared for tomorrow’s much-anticipated Emancipation Day Walk.

Earlier in the day workmen set up the large stage on the northern side of the roundabout, while in the afternoon some of the performers went through their paces with rehearsals.

The Emancipation Walk will begin at 7:00 a.m. with participants moving along the designated route behind over 300 school children; members of a combined Cadet, Girls Guides and youth service contingent; community youth groups; cultural practitioners, and Pan Africanists. They will move off from Parkinson Memorial School in the south, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in the west, the Barbados Light & Power Sub-Station in the north, and the easternmost end of Sky Mall car park in the east.

Proceedings for the morning will include official remarks; the laying of wreaths at the base of the statue of National Hero, Bussa; cultural performances from Pinelands Creative Workshop, singing from the St. Leonard’s All Boys Choir and many others. There will also be spoken word, a drumology, a stick-licking display, folk singing and more.
