Today was the first of two occasions for the body of late Prime Minister the Right Honourable Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford to lie in state.
Barbadians from all walks of life turned out at Parliament to say a final goodbye to the country’s fourth leader.
However, before opening to the public, there was a service of comfort in Parliament Square this morning. It included prayers and renditions by St. Paul’s Church and the St. Michael South Community Choirs.
After the brief service, Sir Lloyd’s family, led by widow, Angelita Lady Sandiford and children Garth and Inga, ascended the steps of Parliament to enter the Lower House to view the body.
They were then followed by President Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Cabinet members, MPs and Senators.
Tomorrow, Thursday, July 13, Sir Lloyd’s body will lie in state at the Democratic Labour Party’s headquarters, in George Street, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
