Barbados gearing up to observe Africa-CARICOM Day

September 5, 2023

As Barbados and other countries in the region gear up to celebrate the upcoming Africa-CARICOM Day on Thursday, Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong says its observance presents opportunities to bring the people of the two regions closer together.

The day is in keeping with a decision taken at the inaugural Africa-CARICOM Summit on September 7, 2021 for an annual acknowledgement to signal an ongoing commitment to strengthened relationships.

Ambassador Comissiong says this new and enhanced partnership is working but there’s more work to be done to heighten awareness of the day.

He made the comments on the Conversations on CARICOM segment of CBC TV8s Mornin’ Barbados.

Ambassador Comissiong revealed a flag raising ceremony is planned in Barbados, where the flags of the African Union (AU) and CARICOM will be raised at Government headquarters.

There will also be a virtual signing of a memorandum of understanding between the AU and the 15 member bloc.
