The Ministry of Education, Technological & Vocational Training is reassuring staff at the University of the West Indies’ Open Campus, following reports they would not be paid for December.
In a statement, the Ministry said the payment of salaries at the Open Campus forms part of an agreement of a number of contributing Caribbean Governments, including Barbados.
It said the Barbados government has consistently paid the approved allocation to the UWI on a monthly basis, of which the Open Campus is a beneficiary.
The Ministry added that to this end, the payment for December 2021 has already been dispatched in a sufficient time-frame to facilitate the payment of salaries.
The statement further notes that in an effort to assist with addressing the situation, the Ministry has also taken the initiative to advance the remaining funds allocated for the remainder of the financial year ending march 2022, to assist the Open Campus with the December 2021 payment of salaries.
