Barbados hosts high-ranking Chinese official

Barbados is hosting a high-ranking member of the Communist Party of China.

Madame Huang Xiaowei, a member of the Party’s Central Committee is paying a three-day courtesy visit to the island, as part of a Caribbean tour that will also make a stop in Trinidad.

This morning, she met with Executive members of the Barbados Labour Party, including Chairman His Honour Senator the Most Honourable Reginald Farley.

He said the talks would focus on sustaining the fraternal relations the two countries have enjoyed for decades, and would also cover issues such as women and development, social policy and youth.

Madame Huang is the most senior member of a Chinese government to visit the island since state Councillor Wu Yi in 2003.

Speaking through an interpreter, she says while this is her first visit to Barbados, the island is close to her heart.
