Barbados has been nominated for an international award for one of its social policies.
The Inter-American Development Bank’s Superheroes of Development Initiative honours, creative and innovative solutions, implemented in projects financed by the IDB Group in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The project in question is ‘Together We Build Strong Families’, which aims to reduce extreme poverty and unemployment.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, explained it targeted 250 of the country’s most vulnerable families.
The project was the basis for the recently launched One Family Programme, which is now targeting a thousand of the most vulnerable families.
Barbados and the other four finalists will present their projects to a panel of senior IDB officers next week.
Mr. Humphrey is hopeful the local team will do well.
