October 23, 2023

As Barbados moves to introduce paternity leave, Minister of Labour, Social Security and the Third Sector Colin Jordan, says studies had to be undertaken and several recommendations put forward to consider.

Though the Cabinet of Barbados has approved paternity leave in principle, he says his Ministry is working to ensure Government was surefooted in its ability to pay.

It was further revealed Barbados is working with the Inter-American Development Bank to consider whether the country should go the route of paternity leave or parental leave.

Mr. Jordan was among the panel for The People’s Business where the topic, Paternity Leave: A Father’s Connection was discussed.

Executive Director of the Barbados Family Planning Association, Anderson Langdon believes through paternity leave, children will benefit from the presence and active input of fathers.
