Barbados urges world leaders to meet with private sector entities

June 24, 2023

Barbados has proposed world leaders sit with the heads of the various private sector entities/companies, including oil and gas, renewable energy and finance to find common ground on solutions to the climate crisis.

The recommendation was put forward by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during a discussion with world and financial leaders at the close of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris.

Ms. Mottley suggests the meeting be held in the next four to eight weeks before leaders attend the 28th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates in December.

The Barbadian leader stressed to world leaders the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris is a new decision point for what an international bank for reconstruction should look like today.

While acknowledging the ambition has increased over the past two days and there’s political consensus, Prime Minister Mottley says countries must work together to make a difference.
