BHTA responds to ‘smear campaign’

November 14, 2023

The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association has responded publicly to what it calls an “unprecedented smear campaign” launched by the island’s trade unions.

In recent months, the Barbados Workers’ Union has been using its social media platforms to highlight what it says are issues raised by hotel workers.

However, during a media briefing this morning, BHTA Chairman Renee Coppin, described it as a worrying trend in the industrial relations environment.

Some of the concerns highlighted by the union include workers not receiving service charge, uniforms or other key tools of the trade.

When asked about these, Ms. Coppin said it was difficult to respond to general statements, but noted a lot of things floating around were out of context or completely inaccurate.
