BICO mobilers back on the road

May 6, 2023

There’s been a resolution to the dispute involving BICO and its contracted mobile operators.

Many of them recently ceased operation over what they perceived as a move by the company to charge them the electricity costs for overnight charging of refrigeration units, thereby reducing their profit margin.

The mobilers, all of whom own their own vehicles while using refrigeration units owned by the company, believed that the charge was unfair since they did not have to pay it before. The company had indicated at the time that it could not move from its position on the matter.

However, the mobilers recently held another meeting with BICO, after which they managed to come to an agreement on a reduction in the kilowatt per hour charge – down from the 58 cents per kilowatt hour that was originally asked for.

One of the spokesmen for the group David McClean gave CBC News the update.

As a result he says the approximately 10 mobilers were back on the road again from Friday.

Meanwhile, the contract between the mobilers and the company is scheduled to be renewed at the end of this month.
