BSTU calls for urgent meeting with education officials

May 10th, 2022

The Barbados Secondary Teachers Union wants an urgent meeting with education officials to address some recent complaints from teachers about breaches of the COVID-19 protocols at schools.

Speaking exclusively to the Morning Report about the situation, BSTU President, Mary-Ann Redman confirmed receiving reports from teachers that one primary school is breaching protocols in relation to physical distancing, by bringing back its full complement of students.

Ms. Redman agrees with the recent comments of the Education Minister, Kay McConney about there being no major COVID-19 outbreaks in schools.

She attributes this to the fact that teachers and students have stuck with the protocols, especially in relation to social distancing.

The BSTU boss is of the view no school should have a full return of students at this time and wants the staggered approach to remain in force until COVID-19 cases subside.
