Call for decisive action on SDGs

July 11, 2023

With the 2030 timeline set for attaining the 17 sustainable development goals just seven years away and the SDG goals at the halfway point, Barbados has told fellow UN member states the time for decisive action is now as Agenda 2030 is a plan to save the world.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who is also the Co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocates Group conveyed this message during a High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to launch the special edition Report.

The main objectives of the ongoing High-Level event are to discuss the latest data and recommendations on progress towards the SDGs and provide a platform for leaders to share their insights and calls to action for accelerating progress.

The 17 goals were adopted by all UN member states in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the goals.

Prime Minister Mottley says the current debt crisis along with the inability of developing countries to access affordable finance limits their ability to invest in the SDGs.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the other Co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocates Group, says it’s vital countries work together to met the targets.
