Barbados and other CARICOM states stand to benefit from $44.8 million in new funding announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to support Caribbean countries in addressing climate change.
The announcement was made during his address to regional heads at the ongoing 44th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Nassau, the Bahamas.
Prime Minister Trudeau says Canada recognises climate change and biodiversity loss do not respect borders and is committed to supporting climate action in developing countries through its 5.3 billion 2021 to 2026 climate finance commitment.
While voicing concern over the growing unrest in Haiti, he also announced a slate of new measures to assist the CARICOM state.
