CBC mourns passing of employee

April 26, 2024

CBC mourns the passing of one of our Newsnight team members.

Philip Hinds is known to us here at CBC as Perker passed away suddenly on Wednesday.

Philip, who joined the CBC on November 12, 1979, was an outstanding sound engineer.

He worked on the news almost every night, along with most of CBC’s radio and TV productions over the years.

Former Manager of Radio Win Callender worked closely with Philip and remembers him as a gentle giant who was loved by the staff.

Philip retired on December 13, 2013, but his skills were soon sought after by CBC and he returned on a freelance basis.

Maurice Bailey heads engineering, the department to which Philip was attached.

Philip “Perker” Hinds would have been 72 tomorrow had he been alive.

We at CBC remember him by one of his favourite sayings “ya en nun.” rest easy Perker and sincerest condolences to his wife Sylvia, children Kimberly and Kirk and the extended family.
