CCB clears air over relocation of two children

August 31, 2023

A proposal for a 24 hour shelter is part of an action plan to address incidents like the one involving a homeless woman whose children had to be taken in by the Child Care Board this week.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of People Empowerment Jehu Wiltshire made the disclosure during a press conference to clear the air on the department’s response to that situation, which has been highlighted on social media.

Mr. Wiltshire told reporters temporary accommodation has been found for the mother, who will be relocated with her children next Monday.

He says however, policy changes are in the works to address homelessness on the whole.

Acting Director of the Child Care Board Colin St. Hill says the agency got involved after receiving a report about the mother and her two children in the area of the Treasury Building on Monday.

He says they acted to protect the interests of the young ones and with the mother’s consent.
