CCJ to hear Tasker’s application soon

October 13, 2023

The Caribbean Court of Justice will hear an application for special leave from former ICBL executive, Alex Tasker, during a special sitting of the CCJ in Barbados, come Monday.

Orders for him to be extradited to the US to face money laundering charges were issued in September 2021.

Attempts by his legal team to appeal the decision were dismissed by the local Court of Appeal.

He then sought special leave with the CCJ to appeal the decision.

That too was dismissed in July this year on the ground that no arguable case was advanced by him, to justify the granting of special leave.

In the hearing on Monday, the CCJ will consider whether the decision to dismiss the application should be reversed and if it is, whether his appeal should be allowed.

Mr Tasker has been linked to the Donville Inniss scandal, which resulted in the former government minister spending two years in a US jail, for his role in a scheme to launder bribe payments from the Barbados-based insurance company through bank accounts in New York.
