Child abuse prevention efforts

April 4, 2024

The Child Care Board (CCB) is stressing this Child’s Month for Barbadians to recognise and continuously address child abuse prevention in Barbados

This from Board Member of the CCB Carl Applewhaite, as he spoke at a press briefing to launch the Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month of activities at the Warrens Office Complex.

Mr. Applewaithe noted it was the third year Barbados would be joining the international community in such an observance.

He reminded the gathering that the CCB’s mission is to protect and care for every child, through advocacy, counselling, and empowering the family, and where necessary provide alternate families and support in an environment of trust with loyalty and competencies.

Explaining that the Board had a legal and moral responsibility to act to protect these children.

He noted that on this premise the Board would continue its efforts to educate Barbadians as to what abuse looks like and encourage Barbadians to report instances of abuse.

Mr. Applewaithe also reminded those gathered that the Child Protection Bill is an example of the legal framework which is necessary for the CCB to continue its efforts and safeguard children.

He is urging Barbadians to join with the Board in bringing awareness to the importance of protecting children and promoting a safe environment for them to thrive.
