Christians observe Palm Sunday

March 24, 2024

Thousands of Christians here in Barbados joined millions across the world in today’s observance of Palm Sunday.

Several congregations across the island participated in traditional processions with palms leaves and crosses in their hands.

Palm Sunday commemorates the Christian belief in the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, when he was greeted by cheering crowds waving palm branches that they set out on the ground along his path.

Also known as Passion Sunday, it marks the start of Holy Week, the most sacred week of the Christian year.

Over at the St. George Parish Church, Reverend Suzette Archer reminded Barbadians of the saving grace and love of Christ.

And over in the City, at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Father Vibert Stephens related the relevance of the Palm Sunday and Easter stories to the present day.
