Communities celebrate National Heroes

Communities across Barbados came alive this National Heroes Day as the country celebrated the contributions of its 11 National Heroes.

The celebrations – a joint initiative between the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat and the Division of Culture in the Prime Minister’s Office saw each parish being assigned a National Hero.

The initiative is aimed at building a sense of nationalism, volunteerism, and nationhood across the island, as part of the Season of Emancipation.

Over at Glebe Land, St. George, a team led by St. George Parish Independence Committee Chair, Paula Harris spruced up their community heroes space.

St. George was assigned the Right Excellent Samuel Jackman Prescod.

Ms. Harris says the Committee has been educating residents about the late hero.
