The Caribbean Public Health Agency is working to ensure Barbados and the region are prepared for any other health challenges in the future.

Executive Director, Dr. Joy St. John at the opening of CARPHA’s 67th annual Health Research Conference in the Bahamas says the Caribbean has learnt lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and are applying them.

She says key sectors are being included in the preparation.

Dr. St. John told the meeting the Caribbean defied the odds in the face of predictions of the collapse of its health systems, fighting with valour and determination.

She says pre-COVID, the linkages between the tourism sector and health were not easily embraced.

Dr. St. John says the pandemic has also shown the region’s tourism product must be safeguarded.
