Concerns have been raised about the number of boys being left behind in the school system.
During the latest consultation on the proposals for education reform at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Director of the Education Reform Unit, Dr. Idamay Denny revealed the attrition rate for boys from the education system is significantly higher compared with girls.
She says more boys than girls do not get the opportunity to write CXC subjects or make it to 5th form.
Dr. Denny says education officials are concerned as very often these boys end up on the block or get involved in gangs.
The education official believes retraining of teachers is critical.
