The Caribbean Policy Development Centre, CPDC, is concerned about what it says is the previous lukewarm interest and reluctance of developed countries to contribute to the loss and damage fund, along with the choice of the World Bank as interim host.
Officer in Charge Richard Jones, wants the fund to remain independent of political biases or government intervention as it delivers much needed finance to small island developing states.
Mr. Jones says while climate resilience in the region is no small accomplishment, countries need mechanisms that can protect against climate hazards.
He made the comments at the launch of the second phase of the multi-actor partnership project for pro-poor and gender-equitable climate risk financing.
The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative and CPDC are responsible for the project implementation in the Caribbean.
