Convicted Campus Trendz killer to be re-sentenced

June 7th, 2022

The Court of Appeal today ruled that Jamar Dewayne Bynoe, previously sentenced to hang for his role in the 2010 Campus Trendz fire that resulted in the deaths of six women, return to the High Court for re-sentencing.

This as the Court upheld his conviction, but vacated his death sentence.

Bynoe had appealed his 2016 conviction for murdering Shanna Griffith, Kelly-Ann Welch, Pearl Cornelius, Kellishaw Olivierre, Nikita Belgrave and Tiffany Harding in the September 3rd, 2010 fire at the Bridgetown store.

However, the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice, (CCJ) the island’s highest court, had in another matter ruled that the mandatory death sentence in Barbados was unconstitutional.

Former Court of Appeal Chief Justice, Sir Marston Gibson, former Appeal Judge, Madam Justice Kaye Goodridge and Justice Margaret Reifer had heard the appeal.
