Lack of money, the cost of living and mental health issues are reportedly taking a toll on some Barbadians.
That is according the National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA).
Representatives of the organisation says these stressors are forcing many to seek drugs as a means of coping.
Given this, Substance Abuse Prevention Officer, Paulavette Atkinson sees the need for a more systemic, community approach to address the issue.
She says along with families, workplaces have a role to play.
Activities this drug awareness month focus on the theme, ‘Our Workplace Our Future, Our Future Our Workplace’.
And Deputy Manager of NCSA Troy Wickham says with the relaxation of COVID-19 protocols, there are big plans to mark the month.
